The most important friendship in the one with yourself.
The person you wake up to, the person you go to bed with, the person you wait in traffic with… is yourself.
Learn to love loving spending time with yourself.
This includes the following:
- Projecting the human qualities you seek from others. Do you like spending time with happy, high energy people? Make the shift to replicate that energy.
- Enjoy the down time. Are you constantly anxious, waiting for what is next? Ever really wonder what the rush is? Learn to enjoy sitting in a room alone, sitting quietly. It’s harder than you might think, but once you find the joy of it, you’ll enjoy spending time with yourself.
- Being kind to yourself. Diet, exercise, positive reinforcement, all of that lame stuff. It’s important. Feel good physically, you’ll feel good mentally in return.
- Probably many other things I can’t think of right now.
When you learn to become a good friend to yourself, you’ll also learn to be a better friend to others as well.
