How I would Restart At 18

If I were to restart at 18 year old Gunnar I would do the following.

  • 18-21 Years old
    • Lifestyle
      • Day after highschool graduation I would be a degenerate all summer with my friends. We’re talking trouble-lite, nothing heavy no records etc.
    • Career
      • After summer I would get a job with a contractor, rennovating houses. I would learn as many hands-on skills as possible.
    • Furthermore
      • I would continue to be a mild degenerate during this period. Staying up too late, playing video games, road trips, drinking too much etc.
      • I would attempt to save $20k over the next 2-3 years living at home.
  • 21-26 Years old
    • Lifestyle
      • I would then move to the closest deserabile city. I would live with multiple roommates with the cheapest rent as possible.
      • I would attempt to meet as many cool people as I could. I would do this by pursuing hobbies and piggbybacking off of my roommates friends.
    • Career
      • I would work in the service industry or continue construction.
      • If service, Ideally a desireable restraurant. I feel like there are intangible skills & connections to be developed by working in a popular city restaraunt.
    • Furthermore
      • I would attempt to develop excellency in my hobby pursuits.
      • I would learn, listen, and ask questions. I would be a sponge to the world and everything it offers.
  • 26-29 Years old
    • Lifestyle
      • I would shift my focus to narrowing down my path. I would start pursuing what interests me the most.Hopefully my prior years landed me many experiences that yield interests worth digging into.
    • Career
      • While part time working my job, I would shift my focus to narrowing down my path. I would start pursuing what interests me the most.
      • I would figure out how to land the meeting with X person or company, or start developing my Y business.
    • Furthermore
      • From this period I would continue to live with as little overhead as possible whether this being moving back home or living with roommates still.
  • 29+
    • This is where I’m at, so I’m not really sure. (32)
    • Lifestyle
      • I would slightly upgrade my living situation whether that is buying a home, if you know you want to be in that area for the next 10 years, or imrpove my rental situation with less roommates.
      • I would continue to hone the hobbies I develeoped in my earlier years. Hopefully these hobbies had enough depth to continue purusing in my later years. (example: music, martial arts, photography etc)
    • Career
      • At this time period I would hope to have found a trajectory and be in the early to mid game of this path. Having some experience, no longer being a noob, but still no expert. Having plenty of room for growth but being able to feel like you’re contributing.
  • Guidelines throughout
    • During this period I would suggest travleling as much as possible.
    • Maintaining the relationships you made is a job in it self. not all are worth maintaining, but put effort int he oens that are.
    • I would acquire as litle debt as possible.
    • I would be open to love and relationships at any age.
    • During this period you need to balance being selfish while respecting your parents or whomever your foundation lies. A deliciate dance to be had.

But in the end, theres no right way, we’re all just figuring it out.
